BILLBOARD FOLKART — Among their other duties, Secret Caverns’ tour guides are responsible for painting the attraction’s billboards. They got creative following a severe windstorm in the mid-1980s that damaged many oof the old, black-and-white signs. Top is the young author Dana Cudmore at the start of a billboard at the caverns’ entrance lodge. At left, a sign shared by both caves; at right one along Route 7 east of Cobleskill. Below, an early version showing the “caveman.” Their are about 30 of these colorful billboards that dot the landscape on the way to the cave.
